Ph.D. Programme

Intensive research immersion under faculty mentorship in advanced fields of pure and applied mathematics, fostering independent inquiry and academic excellence.

Engage in Deep Mathematical Inquiry

The Ph.D. programme at the Department of Mathematical Sciences fosters rigorous academic training and independent research. Scholars explore foundational and advanced areas of mathematics through structured coursework, seminars, and close mentorship from our distinguished faculty.

In the initial phase, students undertake mandatory coursework to strengthen theoretical foundations and introduce advanced topics. Upon successful completion of the coursework, scholars formally enter the research phase, working with a faculty advisor to contribute original findings to the mathematical community.

Research Areas

Our faculty members are actively engaged in research spanning diverse areas, including:

  • Operator Algebras and Subfactors
  • Harmonic Analysis and Dunkl Theory
  • Quantum Information Theory
  • Noncommutative Geometry
  • Functional Analysis
  • Planar Algebras

Eligibility

  • Master’s degree (M.Sc.) in Mathematics or equivalent.
  • Candidates must meet the minimum marks criteria as per university regulations.

Qualifying Exams / Screening

Candidates are typically required to have qualified in at least one of the following national-level examinations, or the university's entrance test:

  • CSIR-UGC NET (JRF/LS)
  • NBHM Doctoral Scholarship
  • DST-INSPIRE Fellowship
  • GATE

Application Process

Ph.D. admissions are notified periodically by Kannur University. Selection involves evaluating the candidate's academic record, performance in qualifying exams, and a rigorous interview conducted by the Departmental Research Committee (DRC). Applications must be submitted through the university's official portal.

For specific queries regarding doctoral research opportunities and available guides, prospective students may contact the Head of the Department.
