BS-MS Dual Degree Programme
An integrated five-year programme designed for exceptionally motivated students, combining rigorous undergraduate foundational training with advanced master-level mathematical research.
Programme Overview
The BS-MS dual degree programme at the Department of Mathematical Sciences bridges the gap between fundamental learning and advanced research. The curriculum is meticulously crafted to transition students from core conceptual understanding to exploring open problems in contemporary mathematics.
During the first three years (BS phase), students undergo intensive training in core mathematical disciplines, including Algebra, Analysis, Topology, and Applied Mathematics. The final two years (MS phase) focus on specialized electives and a mandatory year-long research project under faculty mentorship.
Key Highlights
- Seamless integration of Bachelor's and Master's degrees.
- Early exposure to research methodologies and departmental seminars.
- Opportunities for summer internships and collaborative projects.
- Rigorous evaluation through coursework, seminars, and a final Master's thesis.
Eligibility & Admissions
Admission to the BS-MS programme is highly competitive and is based on performance in national-level entrance examinations and academic excellence in the higher secondary examinations (10+2).
- Students must have completed 10+2 (or equivalent) with Mathematics as a core subject.
- Selection is generally based on the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced ranks or the department's own screening tests, as notified during the admission cycle.
Curriculum Structure
The programme spans 10 semesters. Foundation courses are covered in Semesters 1-6. Advanced core courses and electives are offered in Semesters 7-8. The final year (Semesters 9-10) is heavily dedicated to specialized topics and the final year research project/thesis.
