History of the Department
Tracing the journey of the Department of Mathematical Sciences since its inception during the 10th anniversary of Kannur University.
The Department of Mathematical Sciences was founded in 2008 as part of a significant Syndicate decision to start 10 new teaching departments to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Kannur University.
The department's official inception is celebrated on November 25th, marking a new era of mathematical education and research in North Kerala.
October 25, 2008
Dr. T.V. Ramakrishnan took charge as the first Course Director of the department, laying the initial academic and administrative foundations.
November 25, 2008
The 4-semester M.Sc. Mathematics programme was officially inaugurated by the then Vice Chancellor, Dr. P. Chandramohan.
Since its inception, the department has steadily evolved into a major hub for mathematical research. It is now an approved research centre in Mathematics under Kannur University, supporting numerous doctoral scholars and hosting academic activities that contribute to the global mathematical discourse.
The department continues to focus on promoting quality education and innovative research, specifically catering to the educational needs of North Kerala while maintaining an international outlook.
